review: the betrayal by Sheila Hendrix

Love is whatever you can still betray ... Betrayal can only happen if you love. - John LeCarre

abandoned by their parents at an early age, Zachariah and Matthew McCannon have only each other to rely on. Matt has powers that make him the target of evil forces but Zack will do everything and anything to protect his younger brother. when they face the demon Alanya also known as The Destroyer,  both brothers' loyalty and skills will be tested to the limit.
i find this book very emotional in the sense that it reminds me of how far a loved one would go to protect his own. as the eldest child, i feel very protective of my younger siblings especially now that both our parents are gone. my siblings are already old enough to take care of themselves but sometimes i can not help but worry for their welfare. like Zack or Matt, i would definitely do anything i can to make life a little easier or better for them for as long as my time and resources allow me to do so.
within the context of a paranormal scenario, Sheila Hendrix has written something about family fealty and friendship. there were moments in the book when i hated what was happening to the brothers and their friends when Alanya, The Destroyer seemed to always have the upper hand. i guess the author was effective in conveying the hurt and emotions the protagonists were going through because they really got into me. i also had a lot of questions as i read along. references to previous encounters with the supernatural are mentioned but not fully explained. one major thing that kept bugging me was why and how come Zack and Matt's parents left them when they were so young. what triggered this abandonment? why was Alanya also bent on destroying their father?
just when i thought everything was fine, it seemed that Zack and Matt's adventures in the paranormal realm are far from over. The Betrayal is part of The Dark Circle Saga and the duo will be seen once more in Head Games. based on the excerpt, this book promises to be an exciting one. hopefully it would include the reasons why the brothers' parents abandoned them and explain further the history of Zack and Matt's battles with evil beings. i certainly am looking forward to having those answered.
