Profiling requires belief. Believe in the profile. Believe in yourself.
- Mandy Patinkin as Jason Gideon (Criminal Minds, CBS)
criminal profiling is one subject matter that piqued my interest since i read Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit and Journey into Darkness by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. these two non-fiction books introduced me to a dark domain people rarely get to visit. it is a world inhabited by innocent and helpless victims, serial killers and the dedicated men and women of the law who track and capture them. these books dealt with facts and i found them very intense, frightening and disturbing.
i can clearly say the same for Plain Jane: Brunettes Beware but thank goodness and what a relief to know that it is just pure fiction and speculation.
author Cristyn West has written a well-researched novel with very striking characters. profiler Kent Harbinger walks the thin line between madness and genius. Nicole struggles with her mind and heart - torn between her duty and attraction to Kent. Ruben engages in a professional and personal battle with Kent. this triangular interplay of wits and emotions provides further drama to the plot.
everything about this book gripped me from the spine-tingling opening to the hair-raising conclusion.
readers be warned! this book is not for the faint-hearted but crime and thriller aficionados will recognize a veritable winner in their hands.
