review: a vampire's salvation by Virna DePaul

"I am neither good, nor bad, neither angel nor devil, I am a man, I am a vampire."
-Michael Romkey (I, Vampire)

A Vampire's Salvation
since she was seventeen years old, Francesca Marie Stewart denied herself any intimate contact with the opposite sex. she has been scarred emotionally and physically. now a professional, Frankie works for California’s newest governor and presidential hopeful. Frankie's colleague Jake Rios is the governor’s head of security. her attraction for Jake invades her nocturnal fantasies and waking hours. Jake feels the same and more. Jake is a vampire and knows that Frankie is the mate he has been looking for all his life. Frankie, however, has no idea of his true identity.
Virna De Paul's novella is full of secrets, drama, thrills, passion and romance. her characters are believable and readers can relate to some of their experiences, virtues and flaws.
Frankie's need to be loved and to find someone who will no longer hurt her makes her an endearing heroine. despite her trauma, she does not end up needy or pathetic. her past makes her strong and not bitter. Jake's emotional makeup makes him more man than vampire. he is passionate, caring and very protective of those he loves. as a couple, Frankie and Jake are perfect and they complement each other.
A Vampire's Salvation was an enjoyable quick read. the ending may seem so abrupt for some as there are unresolved issues. this did not disappoint me in the least because i know that Frankie and Jake will be back and i look forward to the next book in the series.
