review: i'll see you when i see you by Franklin D. Edward

“Every exit is an entry somewhere.” -Tom Stoppard

I'll See You When I See You
DeAndre Shepard is young, successful and a handsome gay African-American. he lives the American dream and has everything except someone he could share his life with. memories of his past failed relationships keep him constantly on guard but Dee's close friends Shane Myers and Daniel Willis do everything they can to hook him up with another man. in one of their social gatherings, Dee lets down his defenses when he meets Brook Hampton.
I'll See You When I See You, published by Dorrance Publishing, is a short fast read that packs an emotional punch. it is poignant without being too melodramatic. the story flows smoothly from page to page and touches on themes of love, friendship, family, betrayal, humor, lies and acceptance. it is also about making choices, holding on to decisions and moving on with one's life.
author Franklin D. Edward could have written a longer piece and explored the lives of his well-developed characters more but i was glad that he did not. the narrative was complete and sufficient for me. how he managed to incorporate so much in 58 pages is an amazing feat.
this book is intended for mature readers only and for those who are not uncomfortable reading about intimate relationships between two men.
overall, i was impressed by this book especially with the last few pages. they leave the reader with a message that is enduring and which transcends gender, sexual preference, race and color.
