review: presumed faithful by Kelly Watterson

Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. - Proverbs 5:15

Presumed Faithful
a serial killer is on the loose and the number of dead young women is growing. Detective Virginia Boske is on the case and the latest victim to turn up is Jennifer Howard, her best friend Pamela's daughter.
Presumed Faithful, published by Dorrance Publishing, deals with the murder investigation of a young teenager and the female detective in charge who makes the case a very personal one. not only does she have to deal with pressure from her superior and the city of New York to catch the killer but also with her husband Tom and their increasing marital problems.
this 68-page novelette contains some graphic details and situations intended for a mature audience only. the story has its fair share of surprises which made it quite interesting for me. author Kelly Watterson had a few tricks up her sleeve and i was proven wrong in guessing the identity of the killer. my own theories about how the murders took place were also disproved.
the only thing that fell short for me was the sudden romance that ensued between Detective Boske and her partner Officer Eric Hetrick. i did not even see it coming. it just popped out of nowhere and did not appear convincing enough. it felt like it was put in place to wrap things up conveniently. i needed more backstory to believe that they had something going on between them.
overall, the book was all right. a few pages perhaps devoted to describing how things developed between Virginia and Eric would have whet my appetite more.
