23 Bewitching Book Tours review: going back for Romeo by L.L. Muir

This bud of love, by summer's ripening breath, May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet. - Romeo and Juliet (Act 2 Scene 2 Lines 127-8) by William Shakespeare

Going Back for Romeo
Jillian MacKay had been warned by her late grandmother never to go to Scotland but she finds herself in her ancestors' land in the company of two weird octogenarian twin sisters. hoping to fulfill a prophecy, Jillian travels back in time to the 15th century where she meets her Romeo - the Laird Montgomery Ross.
although i have Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series (gathering dust on my shelf and part of my endless TBR pile), this is really my first time to read about Highlanders. i have to admit that L.L. Muir's novel about time travel and star-crossed lovers was an enjoyable read from start to finish.
i thought i was going to have difficulty with the Scottish words but the author made them accessible and easy to understand. i loved how the conversations between Laird Montgomery and Jillian played out. it was a mix of the old and new and they were quite humorous too.
Jillian's references to the movies Back to the Future and Somewhere in Time while she was contemplating what she got herself into tickled my funny bone.
i also learned about what loyalty to a Clan meant for these Highlanders and how they lived and valued their honor and name.
there were a lot of questions though that popped in my mind as events unfolded. i was getting a tad confused here and there BUT i caution the reader to remain as patient as i did because everything was explained in good time. the answers were truly worth it especially what happened in the last few pages.
overall, i find this book as my perfect introduction to the world of Scottish Highlanders and i look forward to reading more about them.
