while going through my RSS feed earlier for anything new on the blogosphere, i came across interesting posts from Amber and Amber at Awesome Sauce Book Club, Carmel at Rabid Reads, Parajunkee and Five Alarm Book Reviews! they were all talking about one thing and were pretty much excited about it.

you may be aware that last December 2011, Google announced as part of its off-season spring cleaning that it would be doing away with Google Friend Connect or GFC effective March 1, 2012. all non-Blogger users/sites will be affected.

bloggers everywhere looked for other options to keep and/or draw more followers aside from Facebook, Twitter, etc.

well, it looks like someone found a brilliant solution! Brent Riggs, the man behind Linky Tools came up with Linky Followers

although i will not be affected by Google's decision to end GFC, i still signed up for an account with Linky Followers. two of its services that i love so far and find very useful are the Blog Directory and Blog Reader

there are two widgets available. the first one is for free Wordpress.com blogs and hosts that do not allow JavaScript:

Follow My Blog!
Click here to follow this blog and view my other followers...

the second one is for Blogger users and blog hosting that allow JavaScript including self-hosted Wordpress blogs:

i welcome this new alternative to GFC. i hope that
  • bloggers would embrace it
  • it remains a sustainable solution in the long run and
  • you would follow me here as well. c",)
