"Paulina’s lovely eyes darted and flitted over the crowd, looking for Bulla. She had journeyed with the priest to Praeneste, twenty–some miles east of Rome, for the festival of Fortuna Primigenia at her famous temple. Bulla had said that he might attend; that he was not afraid of being captured as the festival was attended by thousands.  Even if he was recognized, it would be easy for him to slip away in the crowds."
